If I were the NYI GM, I'd NEVER trade Hamonic, not even for Duchene. Too cap valuable, too good of a stay at home defenseman.

But I'm not Garth Snow, and I'm not about to get fired. Well played, this trade would likely go through.

They are starved to make the playoffs though. I kinda agree with you, we don't NEED Duchene. We need to let what happens this season happen, then make our moves next season based on what prospects rise to the NHL (Barzal will likely be our 2nd line Center next season, which makes Duchene kind of a moot point).

That said, I don't want to give Tavares reasons to leave, and if you have a vast, yet slowly developing prospect system, it might be appropriate to trade away one or two of those pieces for immediate help. Trade away Dal Colle and you still have Barzal, Ho Sang, Beauvillier, D. Toews, Pelech, Mayfield, Soderstrom and Sorokin on the horizons. If this is the deal we have to make to keep Tavares in Orange and Blue, I'm more than happy to make it.

But I'd still rather send Colorado de Haan than Hamonic. It just makes way more sense for both sides.
