This trade would only happen if VGK traded for Eichel. Probably seeing them drop Krebs from the deal and maybe moving their offered 1st down to a 2nd and a 3rd. Buffalo would probably turn around and deal out Stephenson to a contender for picks/prospects.

Additional Details:

This trade would happen under the same circumstances as the Chandler Stephenson trade, though Buffalo would have to retain s portion of Smith's salary.

I don't know if Florida would trade Vatrano, but if they do it would fit well on the Leafs for like a 2nd or a late 1st and a late-round pick coming back.

Leafs aren't really in a position to take on cap without sending cap back in a trade. So what Leafs leave to make it a deal practical?

Leafs can send Biega, Amadio, and Gabriel down to the minors and can afford to send out Engvall in a trade. Technically could have up to 4.75 million in cap space.

Leafs have a realistic 23 man roster now, with 855,000 in in space. I've seen so many Leaf posts where the Leafs acquire a bigger cap player, and to make the roster work they send players to the minors to make a 20 or 21 man roster. Without the cap cheating taxi squad of last year, these reduced rosters don't work.
