Maybe, maybe not. Is Brad Treliving immune to Jedi mind tricks? Because Doug Armstrong is a Jedi master. Just ask Jason Botteril. Calgary wants a drastic kick in the pants, and coaching changes aren't enough.

To be fair, I wasn't expecting that proposed deal would be popular with Flames fans, or any fans who aren't Blues fans. I am, however, expecting Army to pull off another amazing feat of general management.

Obviously Tkachuk is the best player in the deal. But Kyrou is highly valued by the Blues--his speed and vision make him a special player. Sanford is a budding power forward--soft hands but gritty and versatile, if a bit streaky. Walman has become a solid defender with a great shot, but he is a victim of the Blues' depth on LD. Given the chance, he has the skill and the smarts to be a decent second pairing defenseman.

None of these are big-name players, but they're hardly scrubs. Add in the picks, and it's not bad value--especially considering the return other teams are getting for top-end high-salary talent. It's simply a buyers market right now.

I would hope for more, too, as a Flames fan. But your GM is eager to shake things up, the team would benefit from the salary cap space and quality depth, and--face it--Tkachuk will be coming to St. Louis sooner than later anyway. Might as well get something for him.

Wow that package doesn’t get you one of Beau or Mayfield. You Blues fans are going to cry when you see what VT’s value actually is.

Jedi mind tricks comment is ridiculously stupid. So is the idea that Tkachuk will inevitably go to St. Louis, there’s been like one guy who wanted to go home in their prime (Tavares) and a couple that signed for their home team on a cheap 1 year deal when they’re 35+, which is the far more likely time when Tkachuk goes to STL, if he ever does. Also ridiculous is the idea that we need a shake up and should therefore trade the guy who is likely our next captain. Give your head a shake, a shake up would be trading Monahan, Tkachuk shouldn’t be going anywhere unless it’s a massive overpay. Buyers market means nothing if we aren’t selling lol. Kyrou is a good piece. The 1st is obligatory. The rest of the package is garbage. We have no need for Sanford, he’d be like our 7th best left shot winger. We have LD for days so Walman would never even get a shot. The 4th is meaningless. So if you wanted to make a legitimate offer for Tkachuk it would have to be Kyrou+1st, add Thomas, and probably another piece, to even get Treliving’s attention. We’re not rebuilding and we shouldn’t even be considering trading Tkachuk, so if you want him in his prime then you pay a massive price.
