Buffalo wouldn't do that. That's clearly not the route they are going this year.

Tanking again. Thankfully it worked so well for us last time

Well they kind of got Holtby because they don’t trust Dobby, so I wouldn’t say they won’t trade him. Oettinger is our best goalie and we just singed Holtby so that leaves Dobby as the odd man out.

If Dallas wanted to replace Dobby, they wouldn’t have settled with Holtby. Now if we’re talking the Holtby from 5-6 years ago then yes replace Dobby with Holtby, but at this point Holtby should not be replace any starting goalie other than Jarry.

Dobby and Holtby won't be the starter Oettinger is miles better than both of them so he will. I'm guessing Nill got Holtby because he thinks he can do well behind a way better defense than Vancouver's, will be cheaper and have less years on his contract, but really I don't know for sure why he got him. The only thing I do know is that Oettinger should 100% be the starter next year and since they signed Holtby that means he's staying even if it makes 0 sense at all that they chose him over Dobby.

Otter has only played one season, putting him in that type of position won’t end well. Why do you think Boston went out and signed Ullmark instead of making Swayman starter, because it’s smarter than putting pressure on him right away. Goalies like Vasilevskiy, Rask, and Hellebuyck started as backups.

They won't put him as a full time starter if he isn't ready, that's why they got Holtby and are gambling that he can do a 50/50 split with Oettinger because Holtby has been able to play a lot of games in a single season while Dobby can't, Holtby has played 5 50+ games in single seasons while Dobby's career high is 41 in a single season. My guess is that Nill thinks Holtby is more safe than Dobby if Oettinger struggles.

They won't be putting pressure on him if he plays only half the games. Vasy played 50 games, Hellebuyck 56, and Rask 45 in their first full NHL seasons. All 3 of these goalies have played 2 seasons in the AHL before making the jump, so did Oettinger. In his rookie season he played half the games, I can't see him playing less games next year.
