I don’t understand why the signed him so early and will probably cost them a younger roster player to waivers. IMO there are 17 players better than him on the roster.

Disagree, I think it would make for a good offensive 4th line with Spezza and Kerfoot. There's some good speed on that line and a lot of skill

It's hard to compare forwards and defensemen but I do think there are 14 better forwards then him. I like him a lot as a person and even as a player I think he has value. I don't see him fitting that well with the construction of this roster.

I think Robertson is better but I think he's better suited for the Marlies for now. Semeynov is TBD in the NHL at this time so I think the benefit of the doubt goes to Simmonds. Gusev and Ho-Sang I like but I think they'll just be able to keep Ho-Sang. The only way Goose makes sense for the leafs is if he signs for a league min contract and I don't think he does that. Otherwise I agree with you. I understand wanting his presence around for leadership and he's a tough player to play against. I like him, and I think he could be valuable on the PP

IMO Ritchie Bunting and when needed Gabriel can all provide whatever Simmonds brings to the ice. He is an awesome guy but again there are 17 players who are better than him on this roster. That 900k for a cap tight team could very useful. There’s not a chance he gets put on waivers and will be on this roster. But I feel like it was an unnecessary signing

I think Simmons 2 year contract was just a gift to Wayne. Really I think it's just gesture so he can be sent to the Marlies and help "coach" maybe this year or next. His 900,000 X 2 salary doesn't affect the cap if demoted.
I can't see any team picking up Simmons on waivers, so he stays in his hometown, whether as a Leaf or Marlie.
