Description
Just tried to force the Preds to spend to the cap to see what the team could look like. Not necessarily realistic, I know. I just wanted to make trades and spend money where I could to try and assemble a better version of the Preds roster, and maybe one that could make a playoff run.

Why would Toronto give up the better player with a pick. Makes no sense.

Personally, I'd rank them Trenin, Mikheyev, then Engvall. Regardless, I don't think the gap between any of them is too great though. They all put up similar numbers in the same sort of 4th line role last season. Of course we're all going to value our own player(s) a little more dearly. If Trenin's infamous punch on Chara had happened in a Leafs jersey, there'd be a statue commemorating it on Steve Dangle's front lawn today.

The advantage for TOR here (and why I feel they'd be the team adding a mid pick) would mainly be Trenin's lower cap hit. As tight as the Leafs are against the cap right now, it would make a difference for them. Why pay Mikheyev's $1.6M when Trenin can provide similar production and physicality for only $725G? It's a significant enough difference that TOR could dress another skater at around league min as well as Trenin, getting them closer to being able to have a 23 man roster and still be under the cap.

I also feel Trenin has the most untapped potential of the three. Feel free to disagree on that point, but being the youngest of the trio should be considered a slight plus in Trenin's favour. Being that Trenin will be an RFA instead of a UFA next summer gives him more value than Mikheyev as well.
