That's a pass by the Sabres. They aren't retaining any salary for that long

They may have to or else take back more salary from Calgary seeing Eichel has to stay on the IR. Buffalo was not allowed to put him on LTIR because that would have put them below the cap floor.

Sabres are definitely bringing back players with salary. But to retain salary for that many years would drive up their already high asking price. Taking back a bad contract for 1 or 2 years isn't to heavy of a list.

Calgary adds Zadorov and makes the first round pick conditional (lottery protected). The Flames will be worse this year since Eichel is unlikely to contribute so the Flames may end up in a lottery position. If that is the case, the first round pick becomes a 2023 first rounder. Buffalo retains no salary.
