Great start to the season for the Canes. They have been truly perfect because, unlike the Panthers who needed a couple of overtime wins to get to 8-0, the Canes have won all of their games in regulation -- an important tie breaker, and it means you can compare their streak with pre-overtime era win streaks. Lots of encouraging signs too, solid play in all aspects of the game, contributions from up and down the lineup, and finding ways to win even when they aren't playing particularly well or when they run up against a seemingly unbeatable goalie. The only thing that has me a little uncertain about how great they are is that I don't think they've been fully tested yet. The fact is, they've had a relatively easy schedule. They've only played two teams that have won more games than they've lost (Columbus at 5-3 and Boston, 4-3), and going into tonight their opponents are a combined 23-39-6. Even if you take away those teams' 8 losses against Carolina that's still a pretty bad 23-31-6. One game does not a season make, but if they can go into Florida on Saturday and beat them in regulation, it'll be tough to argue that they're not the best team in the league right now, even if they don't beat Chicago tomorrow. Why do they always seem to have difficulty with Chicago?
