Ok Windjammer lets discuss. Why do you think these trades are bad deals for Winnipeg? My thoughts are this:
Wheeler, Stastny for Kessel - Wheeler has 3 years on his deal and that is going to really hurt the Jets more than it already is. Wheeler is borderline unplayable. Jets getting a guy like Kessel who is a RH shot, and who has won multiple stanley cups will help this team. Also Kessel is an amazing passer so him on a line with Connor and PLD sounds really good to me. Also this is Kessel's last year on his contract so after this season we have more cap room. The Stastny signing just hasnt worked out like it did at the trade deadline a few years ago.
Copp, Stanley for Boeser - Boeser is great player. Living in BC watching alot of Canucks games something with Boeser looks different. He doesnt have the same jump he had a couple of years ago. I think him coming to Winnipeg (closer to his hometown/ dad) might be the spark he needs to be the goal scorer he once was.
Perreault coming home makes sense for Winnipeg as a depth piece. Matty P is so valuable as a depth player because he can play any forward position. Great piece to have back. He never should have gotten away from the Jets.
It's not that the players you are targeting are necessarily bad, it's that you are overpaying horrendously in all the deals except Beaulieu. I don't mind making trades that make the Jets better, but a series of bad value trades doesn't help the Jets.
Wheeler, Stastny trade - no chance Wheeler waives for Arizona, so that kills that deal right away. Also, if you're upset about Wheeler's play, just wait until you see Kessel for a full season. Kessel was a complimentary player when playing with really good players, but he's not that anymore and the Jets don't have the players to make him look good.
Boeser, Copp deal - right now there is no doubt Copp is the better player, so why are the Jets giving up a very good young defenseman and a 1st on top of Copp for a player that will be looking for a large raise that the Jets can't afford. Copp as a center is more valuable and will have a better contract in all likelihood while trending up whereas Boeser will probably cost more and is trending down.
Perreault - he'd be alright to get back if the Jets can fit him under the cap, but if he costs more than a 5th, you walk away.
