Can they keep Strome

Created by: StewMan
Team: 2022-23 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 9, 2021
Published: Dec. 9, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Going to be really hard even with trading Nemeth and Georgiev. Unless Strome takes a pay cut (he'll have plenty of options this offseason). Plus young kids signing bonuses will be over the limit and will have a penalty again. Do they non tender Blais? Do they try and move Goodrow 1 year into his new deal? Do they trade Lindgren because they have LHD depth? Going to be really interesting to see what happens.

I think theyll have to make a tough decision in potentially letting Blais or Hunt go.

They should make the undifficult decision in trading Chytil.

Yeah it's looking like that's the most likely scenario... RIP out center depth (we don't have much of it already)

Side note, I still can't believe we signed Nemeth to that contract 😭

Chytil is a winger playing center, hes no center. Morgan Barron should be given that spot. Also, in trading Chytil and whatever else you try to get back a C.

Im honestly really really hoping the Rangers make a play for 1OA, Shane Wright.

I agree with the first part, but I don't think anyone will be willing to part ways with the 1oa pick unfortunately

Well, although youre probably right, Id be offering LAF, Nils, Chytil, 2022 1st round pick and a conditional 2023 1st round pick

That's an exorbitant amount to give up for a pick that isn't even guaranteed to produce an NHL-caliber player (Yakupov comes to mind). I wouldn't make that move personally.

Considering...
1. He isnt Russian
2. Hes been scouted since hes been like 10 years old, Id take that chance.

I've always been of the mindset that you should never trade established young NHL talent for draft picks. In 2012 the Islanders wanted to trade ALL of their draft picks for the 2nd overall pick (CBJ held that one). They were either targeting Yakupov or Murray, and as hindsight would have it, that would have been a disastrous trade for them (especially considering the fact that the player they took, Griffin Reinhart, was later traded to Edmonton for the pick that became Mat Barzal).

My point is, you just really never know. I'd rather not put all my chips in on the hope that a guy works out when we have such a good thing going. If Lafreniere and/or Nils refused to report like Kravtsov, then maybe I'd be more inclined. But this would be a trade the Rangers would most.likely not win.

Heres the thing with Nils, hes an excellent talent, however we have potentially a better RD in Schneider waiting in the pipeline.
Chytil, aggravates the daylights out of me. Hes not a good center, would probably be better off being a winger, but we cant.

Thats 2 people this team can lose and not touch the core of this franchise.

Again, this goes back to where are we playing LAF and are we using him correctly. The kid will be stuck behind Panarin and Kreider for the next 4 years probably, wasting away. Or we can trade him, use his value for a position that you can never have enough of. A position, even with a Strome signing we are still weak at.

We got these guys to bring in next year...
Will Cuylle, 22gms 18g 7a in OHL
Brennan Othmann, 21gms, 17g 16a in OHL

That's fair. I like Nils but I've definitely been more excited about Schneider this year (and I hated the pick when Gorton made it... happy to eat my words now!). Chytil is very frustrating and I wouldn't mind losing him. I guess when you put it that way it does feel like Laf for Wright, which, honestly, if Arizona was down, I guess I would do after all.

That being said, I don't see the Coyotes doing it. They need all the good PR they can get, and they'd want to be the team picking first at the draft, especially considering it's such a highly touted prospect.

Thats why my idea was a massive overpay, cause thats what it would take.
