Description
More of a thought provoking exercise but I'd be interested to hear fan's opinions on the Kings current state of their defense and what you would do if you were in Rob Blake's shoes going into next season etc. I think everyone would agree that Doughty is 1RD all across the board. Roy is a serviceable and above average 2RD for the Kings. 3RD comes down to Durzi vs Walker and with Walkers injury, it's allowed Durzi to show his skill and I think he's good on his skates like Walker but more creative from the blue line and on PP which has made Walker expendable and a candidate to be traded. I think Mikey Anderson and Toby are set on the left side baring anything extreme and the dynamic LD will be here whether by trade during this season or in the offseason and that Moverare with his hockey sense and size can slot in as the 7th defenseman. In Ontario it becomes more interesting I think. Without any trades, I think you could lineup a defense of Spence-1RD , Grans - 2RD, Faber(if he signs)- 3RD and maybe Strand as your 7th defenseman. Left side is so anemic that I think if they can, they sign Kirsanov out of the KHL and resign Wolanin. So it would be Wolanin - 1LD, Phillips - 2LD, and Kirsanov -3LD. Not to over complicate things but even if it's unpopular, I'd send Clarke back to the OHL for one more season then have him more than likely play in LA when he's 20. This is both lineups without any trades and is how I'd see the defense for both teams if that were the case which is highly unlikely. Love to hear anyones thoughts and app

Clarke and Faber are likely to go pro, either could win a spot on the line up.

Yes Walker and Durzi are at odds for the 3RD spot. However Walker can play both sides allowing him and Matt Roy to potentially be our second pairing, Bjornfot and Durzi to be our third, and Anderson and Doughty to take our top-pair.

If the Kings get a top-4 LD at the deadline or in the free agency, I believe you will see one of Durzi or Walker moved. If Faber and/or Clarke make the team I'd definitely expect Walker AND Durzi to not have a very long shelf life.

There is a lot of pieces in flux, but I think what the Kings want the most is cap space for the free agency so they can swing for a top-line winger.

I think Faber goes pro but takes the Mikey Anderson route and plays 1 year in the AHL before coming up. Clarke from everything I hear has the ability to play Pro but certainly would have detractors in his way from making the Kings, unless he makes the team as the 7th defenseman which is not beneficial to him or the team long term. I remember Walker playing his off side but I think he would be a casualty over Durzi if/when we get the LD everyone has been talking about. I agree that they're probably thinking about a top line winger but I wonder how Kempe and his new contract presumably affects that process and the cap space available to do so. Either way, we're in a good place with a lot of good problems to have and I'm at least content about that reality at the current time
