Gotta get Helm off the game day roster - he just doesn't do much. Not sure why they don't bring Maltsev back up; he was better than Helm.

Maybe but they seem to have some sort of weird affection for Helm; the Avs' brass have this thing for "experienced veterans" even if they aren't playing well.

There's a very good chance the AVS don't need to make any trades to win a Cup.

Could it have something to do with Helm being known as a great PK player? Or has he even been used on PK? I really dont know

too much retained salary.

Why is everyone so ignorant to the rules on cap hit?

G cap hit about $2M and CC about 900k. simple stuff folks...

I'll put it this way: he's not the player he used to be

you might need to explain it to me. capfriendly suggests with the avs current 22 man roster they'll end the season with 800k cap space. even with prorated cap hit this would be a tight fit. how do you figure the can get away with less retention.

a player's cap hit against the team cap is calculated at the first time they join the NHL roster of that team for that season. For G, this will be sometime in March, after the Flyers have already paid about 3/4 of his salary. Players are paid only for the 82 game regular season. Look at his player page on CF at the top it shows how much the Flyers have paid down his cap hit for the Avs.

Players that have been with the Avs since game 1 will count the full amount across the whole season.

So trading away JTC removes 3.5M, while adding CG adds only about 2M at the deadline.

so, on your roster, G and CC can be added for JTC's cap hit. Braun might need a small amount of retention

CF doesn't have an automated cap hit calculator for trades. Perhaps this could be a future upgrade. But they do have the player's daily cap hit calculated on their player page, which is helpful.

yea i understand the prorated part but i see your error now. you prorated giroux cap hit coming in but didnt prorate comphers going out. avs paid most of comphers cap hit. it works both ways.

Gotcha.

So for the last quarter season, the Avs need about 1m extra cap space to afford Giroux

it seems like they'd have enough space to pull off this roster. from what I can tell they with the current roster the avs can take on a bit more that $3.5m in non prorated salary. so giroux + braun + clutterbuck (all with retention) - compher just works.

Sakic might ask PHI to retain 1.5M. Could be worth a 5th rd choice.
