Description
With the Oilers not targeting a goaltender at this years TDL this is the one move I would really really really like to see Ken Holland make, The value I have is all I would want to give up but it could be more. I think when fully healthy our forward group is not in need of any major changes. I want to give Holloway a chance before the years done so that he can potentially move into the lineup full time next season. Im a little disapointed in the org for not trying to upgrade goaltending this year but to be fair there are not a lot in the Market. Fluery who wont waive to go to a Canadian team anyway is gonna cost too much for a rental. Georgiev isnt playing great right now and tbh id rather have koski in the short term. The only goaltender I would actively pursue is Carter Hart who is going to cost more than the Oilers can afford to give while remaining competitive. I think the Oilers should make one big trade to get a really solid player instead of a bunch of meh smaller trades. I think that Jacob Chychrun is a really good fit on Edmonton, he is a young true top 4 defensman on a really good contract with term! I feel that we could send either of Broberg or Holloway in this trade but i chose Brobs because we have some more depth in the LD slot with Samo, Lagesson, Niemlainen. We also have Bourgalt who will likely sign his ELC this summer so sending Holloway instead wouldnt destroy our forward prospect pool but I would hate to see either one go.
Kenny really needs to do something intresting here because I cannot deal with another heart break in the playoffs.

Not only does it cost the oilers a fortune but it causes the same problem had for most of the year the d becomes much softer without Niemelianen in the line up While chychrun is a really good player doesn’t address that need.
FilthyMitts05 and Cbzblaze liked this.

I was thinking about either putting Lagesson or Niemlainen in bakersfeild and the other switching on and off with Keith who has been pretty horrid. I made the decision of Lagesson based purley on stats but yes I think Niemlainen on the third pairing over keith would work. I feel like chychrun is the perfect player to fill the Oilers LD hole and we cant miss the oppertunity.

I'd rather they try and replace Barrie with a big stay at home Dman. I like Keith in the lineup and Nemo has been a pleasant surprise.
I was hoping in this past offseason that the oilers would sign someone like gudbranson. Cheap, big guy who can punish.
But they've gone overkill with puck moving guys. The d is small and weak again and that's cost us in playoffs last 2 seasons.

I think any chychrun talks have to wait till offseason. Need both Keith and klef to officially retire if one of them choose to come back next year that takes chychrun out of play from a cap perspective. Also don’t like pushing Niemelianen out of the line up his big physical play i think is needed on the roster right now more than chychrun not saying he’s better by any stretch but brings an element the team needs more.

I really wanted Keith to be good but hes just too old and slow and he hasnt played very many good games at all.
