How are we supposed to retain salary when it’s the offseason and he doesn’t even have a contract?

If you're suggesting that Boeser signs an extension in Vancouver, then is traded with retention to LA for that return, then sign me up.

I wouldn't give up a bag of pucks for unsigned Boeser. That QO is too scary.

Chances are, he wont sign for his QO, It'll probably be closer to a LOUI deal

What incentive would he have to take less, especially if it's for a new team that he has no loyalty to?

because if he signs his QO, he'll make 7.5 for 1 season then he might sign a 5x5 contract to top that

but if he signs a 6x6 he will be paid about 3.5m more than he would if he signed his QO.

I cant see him skipping to make a quick buck now just to have it bite him in the back later on. He said that he loves it here, him and petey are good buddies and any way you slice it there is no sense in signing the QO

Why wouldn't he just accept his QO again next summer? That's two years of $7.5M that he can make before he becomes a UFA. Then a 4 x $5.25M contract at age 27 makes up the difference.

I think you might be right, he has only played 5 seasons so next year will be his 6th. But I still dont think he would do it. more from a moral stand point, and I don't think that he wants to be the guy who took as much money as he could with his QO but he still wants to make some money. I definately see your point, I thought he had another season under his belt.

If he were staying with the Canucks and wanted to give a hometown discount, I could potentially see that. But if he's getting traded to a team that he has no history with or loyalty to, I think he would take the money and run. A fresh start on a playoff contender could also allow him to make a better case for a bigger contract at UFA. No reason to commit yourself long term after a couple disappointing seasons.
