Philly doesn't need cap space, yes MacDonald is an albatross but they should have over 20million in space with all top prospects with low salaries taking up those spots

4.75 may be what Horvat gets but on a bridge deal..not long term. I dont like taking on MacDonald...gross.

@Bdinella - Capfriendly has Philly with 13 million free next year and only 16 players signed with no #1 goalie (Mason UFA), and Del Zotto, Schultz and Ghost (RFA) needing new contracts. I imagine they'd like to lock up Ghost long term too. So yeah, they need cap space. Plus Philly should be a playoff team with Giroux, Voracek, Schenn, Ghost et all and they weren't, so they may be willing to deal from their deep defensive prospect pool to drop MacDonald's contract and use the cap space on a better supporting cast or big name goalie.

@JMK48 - I used Vincent Trochek as a comparable and gave Horvat the same contract. Horvat lead the team in points but it was still only 51 pts. Trochek is scoring at the same pace (54 pts last year), close to the same age. This contract would take Horvat to free agency at 27. I agree it sucks to take on MacDonald, but his contract is 3 years long and we'll have the cap space to eat over that time, he'll come off the books when our young core players are hitting their prime ages of 24-27.
