laugh laugh Rangers can't afford J. T. Miller at his reported asking price of $8,500,000 x 8 years. And Calgary with Horvat and Oliver Ekman-Larsson Yeah after signing both Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk they can't afford Horvat and OEL. None of those 3 trade proposals return anywhere near those returns.

1) This is assuming the Flames fail to resign Gaudreau. Obviously if they do it's not happening. 2) Rangers are in win-now mode. They're losing 2 out of the following 3-Strome/Copp/Vatrano-this offseason, Kreider will never have a year like this one again, and they need the depth. Since IMO Kakko is a bust, the main pieces being dangled here are Schneider and a 1st. That seems reasonable for Miller, even for one year. (Of course, if you view Kakko as a potential Top-6 winger, then this deal is ludicrous)

Rangers aren't moving Schenider, And if the Rangers can't afford to hang on to two of Strome/Copp/Vatrano then there's surely no way they can afford Miller long term.
