If the Jackets were to trade Laine it would be for top prospects and picks. This wouldn’t happen.

There are definitely teams that would it just depends on the fit. LA definitely could do it, I could see NJ or NYR wanting to take a shot at it.

Ottawa declines.

Did you even consider offering any lottery protection on the first round pick before asking for that massive overpayment??

Miller is a great piece...whose age and term don't fit Columbus' window. Woo is an interesting prospect, but not high-end caliber. If Laine were on a competing team that needed an elite C now, I could see this being enough to get talks started. But for Columbus' situation, you're probably a 1st round pick away from serious discussions.

top 3 protected

Since you're asking for JBD AND Boucher AND a 2023 1st round pick, top 3 protection doesn't even get the conversation started.

Keep in mind that Boeser comes with 7.5 million dollar qualifying offer and you're expecting Ottawa to work around it somehow.

The most you'll get is something like what Buffalo got for Sam Reinhart or what Ottawa got for Mark Stone.

Next time, don't be greedy

Like I said, you're probably looking at a Sam Reinhart/Mark Stone type of return.

This is what a Sam Reinhart type of return looks like ...

A goalie prospect like Leevi Merilainen + a 1st round pick with Top 10 protection for 2023

This is what a Mark Stone type of return looks like

Vancouver's choice of either Erik Brannstrom, Jacob Bernard Docker or Lassi Thomson + Tampa's 2nd round pick for 2022
