Trade for strong No.1 goaltender Fleury, in addition to signing of reliable and cheap backup Kinkaid, stabilizes the position and this season's biggest weakness for the flames. If Kinkaid is unable to be a reliable backup then the strong play of Rittich in the AHL, or even Gillies, provide other options. Acquiring Fleury requires giving up a very good player in Brodie but the signing of Alzner, who takes a slight pay cut to play in Western Canada, replaces the left D spot on the second pairing as he is better defensively than Brodie but worse offensively, at half the price tag. AHL stand out offensive defenseman Andersson will step into second pairing and replace Brodie's offensive output and place on the second power play, while playing along side left handed Alzner. Resigning Engelland and Kuluk who played very well together provide a trustworthy and mobile two-way third pairing on the back end while Bartkowski additionally provides that impact and increases defensive depth. Ferland's play on the top line proves he is able to produce and finish with Monahan and Gaudreau but also earns him a significant pay raise, so three years is a reasonable length for the fairly unproven winger. Due to Bennett's disappointing season, Treliving is able to sign him to a longer deal with a much lower price tag with the belief that the promising young player, with a move to the wing due to the signing of Bonino where he has been more productive, will continue to improve. Bonino's long-term signing brings in a proven winner and productive center who's two-way play can complement the skilled game of Bennett and Versteeg, who himself earned a high pay raise and 2 year deal. Chiasson earns a slight raise, Jankowski's strong AHL play proves he's an upgrade on Stajan, and Bouma and Hamilton fill out the bottom four forwards who will rotate through the fourth line based on performance.
