Van and Minn do a deal

Created by: Jim_Benning_Almost

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think that Minnesota and Vancouver could be good trade partners for a couple of big names. JT Miller to Minnesota allows the Wild to keep pushing for the Stanley Cup next year, and get under that salary cap without taking a step back. For the years beyond, they will need to try to sign JT long term. The Canucks have a little flexibility for Fiala and then need to figure out how to sign Horvat over the next year. I like Deslauriers for his toughness as the Canucks need some of that.

Trades
VAN
  1. Fiala, Kevin [RFA Rights]
  2. Kulikov, Dmitry
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Canucks use some of their open cap space to sign Fiala long term, slightly upgrade their defense for one years, and they scoop their own 2022 2nd round pick - just because.
MIN
  1. Burroughs, Kyle
  2. Miller, J.T. ($1,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Minnesota needs to free up cap space for a year to afford the Dead Cap from their big buyouts from last year. JT gives them an upgrade on offense for that year, and an opportunity to sign him long term. Canucks retaining on JT is necessary for the Wild to get under the cap without moving backwards in the standings.

That's overvaluing Miller. Nobody pays that.

Not really, everyone knows fiala wants a monster contract and he’s probably the streakiest scorer in the league so he’s a huge risk.

you arent getting a top roster player a top prospect and a first for 1 year of jt miller. no player in the history of ever is going to return that package back. fiala wants a monster contract probably not a fit in vancouver but to expect another team to take the risk of signing a player to a long term deal thats a joke. find me ONE player thats coming off a ppg season that also had to attach a 1st and a top prospect to bring back another solid player. its honestly closer to fiala for miller 1 for 1 at this point if miller and vancouver cant see eye to eye.

you think the contract fiala wants is bad, i cant wait when millers numbers come out.

Fiala is not a top roster player he’s a solid top 6 player nothing more. And all reports suggest miller wants the Zibanejad deal which would be around 8.5 mil a year which is completely reasonable for him where as fiala probably wants almost the same when he’s a 6m guy

JT - 1.07 points per game over past three years
KF - .91 points per game over past three years

JT - 29 years old, turns 30 during the season.
KF - will turn 26 prior to the season

JT - UFA next year, likely $8M++ to sign, Canucks will lose him
KF - I think can sign him for $7 x 5 or 6 years.

Don't forget the 2nd rounder coming back.

85 in 82 is a top roster player. 22nd in the nhl in scoring. there are not many PPG players in the nhl. fiala can say he is one of them. If JT's deal all depends on how he performs next year and the expected cap jumps from year to year. hes not taking 8.5m if the cap jumps to 86.5. cuz its just going to jump again. nhl contracts are about to get fat raises because of the new tv deals.
