oilers offseason 2022

Created by: atoiler
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 9, 2022
Published: Jun. 9, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Florida is a an ideal trade partner for both Barrie (to run their PP) and letting Jesse rebuild his game in their Fin-friendly environment. Knight and Skinner offer long-term stability in goal. Gudas fills a right shot hole as a 6th Dman and provides toughness needed after trading or buying out Kassian. Would love to see Lazar back in EDM (BC kid and oil kings alum).

edit to clarify: Jesse + Barrie plus whatever picks and prospects FLA wants for Knight and if it takes Broberg instead, you have to do it.

Would love this trade but it does not get you Knight. Barrie doesn't make sense for Florida, they have Ekbald.

Yeah no chance. Knight is worth more than everyone on the roster not named mcdavid and draisaitl. So Barrie and puljujarvi are not gonna happen. Plus panthers can’t afford to take on that much cap. Play no one wants Barrie

I agree the deal would likely take more from EDM, but it would be picks or prospects. Barrie raised his stock a ton under woodcroft. He played well enough defensively to show he can still be a top 4 guy and run a top ranked power play. FLA basically got knocked out of the playoffs because their PP stunk. And they have to make a decision on Knight / Bobrovsky soon. I don't think anyone is taking on Bob's contract. So yeah even if EDM has to throw in more picks / prospects to get Knight, it's worth it.

Also, Knight is going to be making $4+ million a year the year after next season and Florida definitely can't afford that with Bob's 10mm on the books. So trading one this offseason will get them the most value in return. Barrie + Jesse is probably only an extra 2 or 2.5mm to their payroll

Barrie isn’t needed on Florida though. We have enough players who dont play defensive. And they’ll figure out knights situation next season. He’s very very valuable who would cost you at least broberg plus because everyone knows you need a good goalie so it’s not coming at the hands of a bust and a winger playing defense. Plus you want gudas who is probably equal to barrie right

I hear you. I live in south florida and see plenty of panthers games. I could see Broberg there too. FLA has an unusually high number of right shot defense. But no, Gudas is not equal to Barrie and Jesse isn't a bust yet. I really think even if we throw out the Knight / Barrie stuff, Jesse in Florida is an ideal situation. There's no media pressure here. Lots of fellow Fins to play with and live with. And he'll likely sign cheap for an arb eligible winger.

If he is out in mcdavid wing and still can’t score he’s pretty much a bust. And gudas brings way more to the table than barrie at least on floridas team.

And top 5 regular season. Doesn’t mean barrie would do anything but be another yandle on this team.
