Offseason

Created by: ProAvsFanatic
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 14, 2022
Published: Jun. 14, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a downgraded team for sure but one that can stay competitive with enough good depth. (1)Meyers or Sedlak are probably locked for the Bottom 6 (Bednar might prefer Sedlak because of his experience with him) and if Sturm doesn’t resign Sedlak will probably be 4C. (2)I think Newhook can get needed experience as a 2C with Landeskog. (3)Stastny is a bit of a compromise candidate for 3C filling with Newhook at times. (4)Manson doesn’t resign as much as I wanted him to but the cap crunch next year makes him unaffordable. (5)Kulak is a nice defenseman and might pair well with Erik Johnson. He might resign in Edmonton but considering their cap situation the Avs could sign him...or someone else. (6)I felt Kuemper would get a Markstrom type deal on the open market, but after the playoff run the Avs just had I think he might take a more team friendly deal to keep the gang around for a couple more years. Let me know how I did.

That would be a good offseason but, that Nichushkin contract is a little spooky.

I agree with you on that but Nuke is a great player and he might get a little more if he hits free agency from a team desperate enough for a 2 winger like him. I just gave him the higher-end deal but I hope he signs for less.

You're probably right about FA. I would just be concerned because he only had one good season on a stacked team.

If that’s what Val’s contract is I’ll have no issues with it. It’s not just about the point for him. He brings a lot to the team with his forchecking abilities and his PKing. He fits so perfectly and as long as his quality of linemates don’t go decrease ridiculously he will put up the same points again.
But with that AAV I would also like some more term.

Fair enough, we’ve seen plenty of players decline after getting the bag but he’s been solid in Colorado for his entire tenure here and he’s on mostly the same team from this year. Only change is Naz, which is huge however we’ll have to see.

i dont think you'll get stastny for that but sturm should be cheaper too.

id rather re-sign cogs than nak but it's just personal preference.

Cogs is obviously great in the playoffs but I can’t really imagine him staying since he was acquired just for the playoff run. NAK hasn’t been the greatest at times but he’s still a solid 4W imo. You’re probably right about Stastny, though.
