Just curious why the Leafs would give up a 1st and 3rd for 1 year of Brown who is a 3rd liner, 2nd on occasion?

Exactly, that’s a dumb trade, we’re wasting a 1st. Leafs are also aren’t trading firsts

Cause that’s what he’s gonna go for at the deadline

"3rd liner" is disingenuous

He has had the most ice-time among Sens forwards for 3 straight seasons, he is used in all situations (and has been the 2nd most used forward on the PK in the whole league during that period of time)

He has a lot of defensive/matchups "missions" but what makes him even more valuable is that he produces like a 2nd line forward, at Even Strength or on the PK on top of it...

https://www.nhl.com/stats/skaters?reportType=season&seasonFrom=20192020&seasonTo=20212022&gameType=2&position=F&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,82&sort=pointsPerGame&page=2&pageSize=50

0.61 PPG is excellent production when it mostly comes at ES/PK while matching up against other teams best lines. It doesn't seem like it's a concept that a lot of people grasp though

He only played in a top-6 role with Ottawa when the Sens have had several injuries at forward. He mostly played with Nick Paul in Ottawa, a defensive specialist.

Possibly more than 1st + 3rd, depending on the next deadline market. If it resembles to the 2022 deadline, then most likely more.

He won't go for a 1st and 3rd at the deadline that is for sure.

And he doesn't produce like a 2nd line player. He is a 3rd liner, a good one who can jump to a 2nd line role for fill in. But he is a 3rd liner. Stop overvaluing him.
