He’s a really good guy to have around the looker room. Easy to get to know and would strengthen your left D side

No.

Not because I think he‘s worth it or that any other team should pay that price.. But unless somebody blows us away we‘re better off keeping him and, if required, trading him at the deadline.

And furthermore, we‘re not looking for futures so if you wan‘t to trade for Severson there‘d have to be current NHL talent coming back to us.

our left D side has chabot, sanderson, brannstrom, and holden. we don’t need left D lol, and I’m sure we can find a much cheaper guy to be good in the locker room

NJD will definitely play hard ball on that one. But more then one 1st round ain’t never happening for Severson. I’m open to reevaluate one of the 2nd round

Detroit better fight fiercely for Seider but he should be a Leaf. Negotiations will proceed and a 1 st round in addition could be in the cards.

Coyotes don’t rely on Crouse. To me he’s a great fit for the Leafs and the Coyotes get two guys that can give them more depth on the 2nd line in Kase and a speedy left winger in Engvall.

I hear you about futures. Current NHL talent could actually be in the cards. Name your talent.

Come on, no. See this as a confirmation on how poor we’ve been in the drafts and trades before. Like: Leafs Trade Tuukka Rask to the Bruins for Andrew Raycroft. We serve.

With Backstrom probably out (really sad for that since I like him and the way he plays) Carlson on the decline and Ovie still going strong but for how long can he keep it up… I say the Cap’s need to start looking at a rebuild in the near future. This is a all Cap’s win trade since either Samsonov or Vitek will be gone, likely

Backstrom being out, while obviously sad, was the best thing that could've happened for the Caps to keep contending in the near future. Last year Backstrom missed a ton of time and was a shell of his former self when he did play, and with a 9.2M cap hit he was overall a huge drag on the team. If he's LTIRetired (Hagelin too most likely), the Caps end up with around 21M in cap room this offseason to replace him, upgrade in goal, and pad out their depth. The Caps are one of the only teams in the East with the flexibility to make significant improvements this summer. They're not just gonna give up and take on cap dumps for mid-round picks when they could theoretically go out and sign (just as an example) Trocheck for 7M, Nichuskin for 7M, and Campbell for 5M and come back next year as a much better team.

I don't hate this move for them but not because they need to rebuild. They will be going all in next year with a ton of cap space to play with. If they miss out on all of the top goalies, taking Mrazek who definitely could (given how unpredictable goalies are) bounce back while also picking up some good assets isn't horrible. Would definitely not be plan A, B, or C, but a not completely horrible plan D
