I just read an article that got my attention. It suggested that Chytil reminded him of Alexei Kovalev. Kovalev got off to a great start in his first two seasons, and was and important part of the 94" Cup Winner. His next for seasons were inconsistent and he was traded to the Pens. He flourished in PIT but had a far better supporting cast. Marsha Warfield, a regular cast member on the 80s-90s sitcom "Night Court" once stated that "There's stupid, and then there is a certain kind of stupid." No further elaboration was required. In that spirit, their is potential, and then there is a certain kind of potential. That's the sense I get when I think about Filip and Kappo. So what if we used the two of them to fill the #2 C slot. candidates include: JT Miller (if he is even willing to return to NYR, and his arrival wouldn't help the CAP situation). Mark Scheifele (good production, under contract for next 2 yrs., reasonable cost, no better that Strome on faceoffs - feels like a rental). Yanni Gourde; good production, improvement over Strome on faceoffs, under contract for three years at a very acceptable cost. SEA will want a pick or a player. Yanni is 30, Filip is 22, Kappo is 21. If only one of them bears fruit, they become a long-term member of the roster, if both of them do .......... well. Yanni is a three year rental so another player is out of the question. I'm not sure a pick is warranted either, but if that is the case, a 5th rounder, 4th rounder at best is what I would offer. The rest of the changes proposed I'm not wedded to. I'm simply trying fill out the roster in a fiscally responsible way. A hypothetical open for comment, comment that I am very much interested in, with one exception Kakko and Chytil gone, no way. It's a hypothetical. There is buzz in some circles about this possibility. I'm looking for ways to improve this, if possible. Drury is talking about Scheifele, Dubois, and that he also looking to deal. Re: Reaves - Gallant would be apoplectic so the assumption is Ryan stays.
