Devils certainly consider this. Doesn't happen if they land Gaudreau.

lotta wishful thinking here

-Bailey might bring back a mid-round pick but I don't see Jersey being the team to take it and I don't see it creeping up towards an early 3rd unless the Isles retain some salary.

-Palmieri didn't sign 4x$5M with an NTC just to get traded 3000 miles away from his hometown after a year. He sticks around.

-Varlamov reportedly didn't want to waive for Edmonton; I could potentially see a deal centered around Varly-Pool Party being a possibility if he waives, but I don't see Edmonton adding a 2nd while the Isles add nothing more than Kieffer Bellows.

-Burakovsky probably signs closer to $6M and consensus seems to be Dobson bridging at 2x$4.5M, not 3x$4M - I'd be ecstatic if he took that deal though.

I'll eat my words here, I wouldn't have thought Bailey would have value to the Devils. I'd even be fine doing Bailey for Tatar instead of a 3rd if you're into him.

If the Devils think Bailey can put up a 45 point pace each of the next two years, and they have the cap space, it might work out. A trade like this would probably be more likely at the deadline than during the summer, so Tatar wouldn't be in the cards as a return. It also depends how UFA/RFA shakes out, even without Gaudreau the Devils would be much happier with a Marchment, Puljujarvi, Kakko, or Mikheyev in their middle six.

Forgot about both of those- Palmieri being from Long Island and the Varlamov not wanting to go to EDM a few months ago.
Bailey to devils is an idea if they don't land Johnny hockey because they need wingers.
For Burakovsky and Dobson I may have low-balled slightly.

You left a ton of cap space even with Burakovsky & Dobson so it's really just picking nits on that - your ACGM has more than enough room to cover the extra $1-1.5Mish they probably command.

I think the trade values are pretty close for what it's worth, there's just a ton of NTCs to navigate on this roster. And I honestly am happy to see a couple NJD fans open to the idea of a Bailey trade - I'm not running him out of town if I don't have to, but if that $5M needs to go to a Johnny Gaudreau, I'd be happy to pay his LIRR fare to Penn Station. Hell, I'll help carry his bags to the NJ Transit terminal if I have to!
