Strange Ideas - Malkin

Created by: Kado777

Initial Creation Date: Jul. 8, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Evgeni Malkin situation: Guerin and Malkin make a deal where Malkin gets 10m this year, but agrees to sign an extension at the end of the year for 2 years at 4.375m per year. This is similar to the Goligoski deal, where Goligoski took 5m for 1 year (massive overpayment) but then took a 2 year 2m per year deal to average out at 3m per year. In Malkin’s case, his deal would average out to 6.25m per year, but it would allow the Wild to give Boldy an extension next offseason while also having a solid 1st line center at a reasonable cap hit.

I don’t know if this would be looked at by the NHL as cap circumvention if Guerin does it again after just doing it with Goligoski but if its not against the rules it would definitely be worth it.

Fair enough, just thought I would ask.

I would substitute this trade for

    Talbot
    For
    2023 3rd and 2023 4th and the 3rd becomes a 2nd if Toronto makes the conference semifinals.

    Would that sound fair?

    Fair enough

If it was a prospect like hirvonen or voit they might consider it but knies is a prospect so valuable to this team because of his position and type of player, there are maybe 10 players in the league I would move knies for (not saying he's the next best player) it's just we are in dire need of LW prospects and guys who use their body and knies does both.
