How is Strome an upgrade to Monahan? They are both big centers that don't use their body and are below average at skating. You talk about riding the season out but why not do that with Monahan instead? Then you have even more cap space open up

I’m leaning this way now too — keeping Monahan seems like a worthwhile gamble to increase his value and provide more optionality with cap space next year.

A better target than Strome, who probably wants multiple years, would be Stastny. Could get him on a 1-year deal I think.

That said, if CGY keeps Monahan, you have to play him. And they should 100% be giving Pelletier and/or Phillips an opportunity to play with the big club this season. So there isn’t a ton of space for another signing without a trade.

I really dont think we should make any big signings. Im ok with bringing back Z but I think that means Valimaki is probably moved at least

I guess Treliving could let Valimaki and Mackey compete for the 3rd pairing spot before making the trade. If Valimaki shows up to camp and wins out, then you at least have a better idea on his value.

Meloche has more experience than both guys, and I think Zadorov will play on the right side.
