Description

I've been saying it all off-season and been eviscerated once or twice by my fellow Habs fans, but look how many quality scoring players are still available on the market that teams that have money can pickup. Many of them have equal or better stats than Drouin, Armia, Hoffman. That is why you need to PAY teams to take these players on, not the other way around.

Ryan Strome, Dylan Strome, Rem Pitlick, Kadri, Bergeron, Kessel, Statsny, Niederreiter, Rodrigues, Milano... The list goes on and on. All available as UFAs. Most probably willing to sign a cheaper deal than Hoffman & Drouin and all with way better stats than Armia.

If we wanna free cap space... We've got to pay or retain salary.

Cap is KING this offseason.

Interestingly enough... If we need cap space we are better off buying out our 1 year left players such as Byron, Dadonov, Drouin. Dadonov is by far the cheapest Buyout.

Fair. But I mean... There's 15 free agents better than Hoffman, Drouin, Armia who can probably be had for less money and no assets.

Oh 100%, I'm just living my happy life knowing that the Ducks made at least 1 addition. Not a game changer, but happy to see a bit of action and (seemingly) not overpay outrageously for him.

Based on what Burns went for... The Habs should take what they can get for Petry and move on as well...

Hope so. Would be nice. I think a lot of people are hyping Dylan up to something that he isn't though-but having both would be fun.

With the Habs, it's a rough spot to be in...team is probably better than the dumpsterfire of last year if everyone is healthy, but yeah, hard to build with some of those contracts...

Unfortunately you are right. These guys would cost too much to perform similar or worse than many of the FAs. I don't think anything is going to happen until the trade deadline because of this (not Hughes' fault), we'd be lucky to move one of them for a late 2nd or early 3rd. Next year Allen, Drouin, Byron and Dadonov will be UFAs (~$16m in cap space) and I'd hope the Habs don't re-sign them.
