What would be the point of that trade?

Kinda just swapped similar players and gave up a pick.

Bear was given a QO that will be under the limit where the Canes can walk away. It'll probably be between $2.5-$3M. They're currently right at $4M in space, so they won't be able to free up enough to avoid a Necas offersheet that they could match at $4.2M or more without shedding salary (even with a Gardiner buyout). This gives them someone on the left at a lesser cap hit for the bottom pairing, vs. trying to shed another contract to keep Bear and Necas.

You can pick up a smaller guy like Bear in free agency . I don't see that trade happening. Canucks talked to Troy Strecher a similar type player and did not come to terms . I don't think they would have interest in this.
