Slight Rebuild v2
If your expectation is Necas, Morrow, 1st, Pittsburgh is going to be disappointed with this trade.

Guentzel
Pittsburgh might be alright with a prospect downgrade, and addition of later round conditional pick (5-7) a la Lindholm Trade. The Zegras trade is a shot at another offensively gifted player with term adding Henrique as well for this playoff run.
We keep our best prospects in Nadeau and Nikishin, and open the option to sign Guentzel. Zegras comes on with a more reasonable bridge than Necas will likely get, and we still have 30M to sign Jarvis, Guentzel, Skjei, and <em>maybe</em> Teuvo, while looking for a center in the offseason and depth on defense and upfront.
Not terrible, IMO.

what a Saros to CAR trade would look like
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SnipeRV</b></div><div>The ask from LA was starting with Byfield and a 1st. If Saros gets dealt it takes this. But I agree that is Carolina doesn't like this ask Saros just stays put or goes to a higher bidder.</div></div>
You should look up comparable goalie trades in the last 10 years. Do you know how many of them turn up players like Necas and Byfield? Absolutely 0. How many return 1st rounders? Like 5.
the Avs traded for Kuemper in their cup winning year for Timmins (a serviceable Dman with a bad injury history), a 1st (31st OA), and a 3rd.
If you're trading for a player you think is a dynamic center, Saros is going to be the start, and you're going to add a lot to it.
Goalies just don't have that value. The position is too variable game to game, year to year.

Number 5 pick for a number 1 pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>seanrushton</b></div><div>A sub-average goalie, a prospect, and 2nd for a young NHL-ready goalie is not a good deal for us.</div></div>
Remind me again how many games Alex "goalie of the future" Nedeljkovic played for the Hurricanes before they traded him to Detroit for a 3rd round pick? 27. The exact same number than Kochetkov has played. The kid is still a rookie.
The contract is great, yeah. But Allen is serviceable, and they'll likely re-sign Freddie. Xehkaj played almost 16 min. a night for the Canadiens, and that second rounder is pick number 37 next year, which can help them bring in a goal scorer.
It's certainly one of the better trades I've seen on here. I'm much less tied to goalies than skaters.

What? I'm a Canes fan, and I would probably make this deal.
Why is Montreal trading Xhekaj?

Offersheet Timo Meier
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>Or the Canes choose not to be dumb and only offer sheet for 1 year.</div></div>
Why would they risk 2 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd to only offersheet 1 year? He's a UFA, so if you don't get term on the first contract you risk losing him for nothing. They'd only be able to sign him after Jan 1st of 2024, and if he doesn't want to sign then, he's probably gone.

Offersheet Timo Meier
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Falcon_talon</b></div><div>Bye bye Aho and Pesce :(</div></div>
I don't necessarily think so, depending on what contracts those players are comfortable with. I think if you try and get Pesce/Skjei in at or under $13M, you do Aho at $10.5M longterm, Jarvis at $4.5-5M bridged, Necas at $7M. That's $35.5M worst case, which is exactly to cap for 2024-25 without an increase. We'd lost Teuvo, and we wouldn't have room to sign Drury, Chatfield, Martinook, Noesen, etc.
I'd probably bring in a depth dman instead of Soucy like DeHaan, or have Fensore play if it meant being able to keep a few of those guys. then you would have +/- $3M to add to Slavin's contract the next year, and all this is just a few years out from what is likely a significant cap increase.
It's doable. Maybe a big spend, but your top six is Aho, Svech, Necas, Meier, Jarvis, KK, and you still have Staal, and Barbashev in the wings. We have loads of depth guys to help our bottom 6, and your defense is locked in.

Bear Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldManRutherford</b></div><div>What would be the point of that trade?</div></div>
Bear was given a QO that will be under the limit where the Canes can walk away. It'll probably be between $2.5-$3M. They're currently right at $4M in space, so they won't be able to free up enough to avoid a Necas offersheet that they could match at $4.2M or more without shedding salary (even with a Gardiner buyout). This gives them someone on the left at a lesser cap hit for the bottom pairing, vs. trying to shed another contract to keep Bear and Necas.

CAR - Signs Forsberg
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>spockrock</b></div><div>Don’t see the point with the EDM trade, just keep TDA.</div></div>
The point is that TDA is going to get more than $4.5M probably closer to $6M. This way Barrie can serve as a TDA replacement, and provides additional salary for others.
I didn't figure out anything with Bear. I guess in this case, they could either include him in a trade (Arizona) or get a pick for him.

Offseason v13
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>planter5</b></div><div>Canes would rather just keep necas</div></div>
I actually don't mind this trade at all. Vilardi has looked pretty good now that he is healthy, and though he doesn't have Necas' speed, he does have high end skill, and he's only 22.
Spence would give us another low cost RHD for a few years, and could turn into a player, and that 1st is 19th OA.
That is a solid trade offer IMO. As a Canes fan, I would do that.

I don't know what he would sign for. If he likes it in Raleigh, maybe he would take ~500k less? Ideally he wouldn't sign for much more than ~1.25M, but he probably knows his worth on defense from the Fleury trade.
