Description

CBJ gang, and fans of the Ducks/Flames/Sens/Preds, would love feedback on this, now that Blanky signed at a solid value. I see one of Foudy, Bemstrom or TFW being the most likely sweetener in a Nyquist cap dump deal. Note to CBJ fans, this is what I envision as the Opening Night lineup. Johnson will be up soon enough, but it makes sense to let him get 1C minutes in Cleveland and develop there if he can hack it. Same with Chinakhov and Blankenburg, who need minutes, and aren't likely to get enough in Columbus to start the year.

I figure this would likely be enough enticement for the Ducks, who need to get to the cap floor anyways. Minimal assets to give up, you take a flyer on a guy like Foudy who has speed to burn and could be a guy like Milano who needs a change of scenery, and Nyquist comes off the books next year when Zegras, Drysdale, Comtois, and Terry need new deals.

Would the Flames even consider being the team that helps Columbus keep Laine? Gotta feel like it'd go over like a lead balloon with the fanbase. Still, Nyquist would be a legit contributor, particularly if they keep Tkachuk/Mangiapane and need a strong middle 6 winger in an effort to contend

This is a spot that I think makes a lot of sense to send Gus. They've got plenty of cap space, but he doesn't jam them up long-term. And he slots neatly into that middle 6 for them.

I saw Verbeek said they're more likely to sign FAs and such. Seems like an unusual approach, esp. if the Jackets are willing to include Bean, Foudy, and/or Bemstrom along with Gus or Voracek, but that's his prerogative. Plus, they'd still have two 2nds in the 2023 draft, and would add a 3rd in the 24 draft in this scenario. But I respect it if it's not workable for Anaheim. I appreciate your feedback, though!
