Let me get that mic man

Created by: rcazz
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 20, 2022
Published: Jul. 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trying to establish fair value between Tkatchuk and Nylander:

Tkatchuk:
-Regular Season (431 gp, 425 pts)
-Playoffs (27 gp, 15 pts)
-Age/Contract (24/Unsigned-likely costs 9-10 m x 1 in arbitration) (*also wants out of CGY lowering their leverage in trade scenario)

Nylander:
-Regular Season (439 gp, 343 pts)
-Playoffs (39 gp, 30 pts)
Age/Contract (26/6.9m x 2 yrs)

Tkatchuk is a better player but considering Nylander’s seemingly under appreciated value, along with Tkatchuk’s contractual issues, a trade between the two would be a lot closer than people think.

Imo a solid prospect, and a mid/late rd draft pick bridges this gap pretty fairly (regardless if TO extends him past next year or not)

Someone will trade a lot more for Tkachuck than that package. Not sure why anyone on this site would pretend 24 year olds are viewed as rentals lol.

Calgary laughs at that trade proposal and hangs up. Then calls back to laugh some more and hang up again

I mean his contract allows him to walk after this upcoming season the same way a rental UFA would so..

For reasons stated above, I disagree, respectfully.

Yeah but he’s 24 and everyone calling Calgary will have an extension in place with the deal

If Calgary does move Tkachuk, they will be offered a lot more than this proposal. Nylander is very good, yes...but a true power forward superstar in his prime is a very rare thing to be available. I expect a team to really overpay to get him.

I’m sure in an ideal world that would be the case, but Calgary doesn’t really need to worry about his next contract if they’re trading him. I’d bet that they take the quality player who is close in value and signed for two more years at a reasonable price, in addition to picks and a prospect than wait around until Tkatchuk agrees on a team/contract extension throughout the season.

Calgary will do whatever they can to maximize their return. That means an extend and trade.

I don’t agree that the players are comparable either

Maybe so, I guess all I’m suggesting is that if a team pays dramatically more than this, then they are grossly overpaying based on the player values and contract statuses involved.

I’m not suggesting Nylander is better or even as good as Tkatchuk but their statistics are relatively close, Nylander actually outperforming him in career playoff totals, while factoring in the contracts pull their values even closer together

Yes offensively they are nearly identical, but defensively its not even close. Tkatchuk back skates, gets takeaways, and throws the body around, whereas Nylander does not.

You don’t normally see older players packaged for someone so young. Can’t imagine how awkward it would be for Calgary to introduce an older winger as part of their return lol.

Maybe Marner for Tkachuck is realistic but even then I’m not sure. And you obviously aren’t adding to Marner if ur Toronto.

They will be 1 year apart in age as of December mate.

I guess I just see the contract factor as more significant than those differences. Plus that’s what the added prospects and picks are meant to address too.

Yeah but they aren’t actually a year apart. Isn’t it a year and however many months
