If either ...

1. Florida's 1st round pick for 2025 becomes the property of the Philadelphia Flyers ...

OR ...

2. Florida's 1st round pick for 2025 is in the Top 10 ...

Calgary receives Florida's 1st round pick for 2026

Just saying the 1st round pick is "lottery protected" would be a characterization that is vague, ambiguous or open to interpretation.

It is unclear to me as to whether the 1st round pick that is involved in this trade is protected from winning the lottery or from participating in the lottery altogether.

Winning the lottery and participating in the lottery are two different things.

I am under the assumption it is Top 10 protected for the 2025 Draft Lottery.

How might I know this?

Because every 1st round pick traded within the last year by either Calgary or Florida was Top 10 protected.

These were for trades involving Tyler Toffoli, Sam Reinhart, Ben Chiarot and Claude Giroux.

top 10 protected just means after the draft lottery is done if the pick is in the top 10 it won't transfer.
