Habs have time on their side

Created by: jonh514
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 24, 2022
Published: Jul. 24, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
As Carey said: Chill! We have nothing but time on our hands.

1) Team is gonna be terrible defensively next year and that's gonna be good for us because we'll get a high pick
2) Team is gonna focus on offence next year and that will be good for us because we'll sell Dadonov, Drouin, and maybe Savard and Hoffman at the TDL since they will pickup points
3) Team will draft really high in the best draft in the past decade before making real improvements to this team
4) If Carey's knee gives out we'll be the first to speak on waivers and will have cash to pickup more steals like Byron & Rem Pitlick
5) If Dubois and Huberdeau really want to play for Montreal, they can sign in the offseasons of 2024 and 2023 respectively
6) We need to know who Dach is before we go looking at other 2C options. We may be trying to solve a solved problem
7) After decades of nightmarish former players and bean counters... We FINALLY have a real GM! In Gorton & Hughes we trust :)

Agreed! Nice to make some room under the cap but every Hab player is coming off a bad year and no one seems to be taking on any player with cap. Will be interesting the cap gymnastics if no moves are made by beginning of season

We really need to know if Byron is out or not. Maybe after saving that pilot today he's ready to call it a career?

Agreed. Trading for Hubiedoobiewoobie or Mr Home Depot is a mistake. Even getting them cheap will hurt the tank that they've set up for themselves in an improving division with no goaltending or defence. The team will score more goals, they'll be entertaining with MSL, let them play fire wagon hockey and concentrate on player development. Even with PLD and Huberdeau, they'll need another few top 10 picks to develop to contend.
Goaltending is the big worry as that can sink you even with all the offence in the world, look at the Leafs, Capitals besides that 1 year where they went through a different starter to begin the playoffs, and Penguins the last few years.

Goaltending is voodoo. It's very hard to draft an elite tender. They'll be a bunch of free agents tenders in 2024 with a lot of cap space. I'd focus on getting a goaltender then.
