Description

While Kadri will be missed, any contract he signs over 6.5M will cause significant problems with the cap crunch this year and next year. At this point, it's better to sign a more cost-controlled player and have some cap flexibility for the TDL if you still need to add a 2C option.

Next year, this would hopefully give cap room to sign Mac, Newhook, and Byram without getting rid of other roster players (i.e Girard or Toews)

Unless Kadri takes a discount he isn;t coming back.

IF he doesn't then it will hurt but i think this team is still fine. I don't see Rodrigues as the answer here either. I would think you see Landeskog or Rantanen move to play 2nd C and you either move up a younger player or get another winger.

I think Rodrigez gives extra depth and flexibility to test out line combos. He has the speed to match pace with the team, whether he fits at 2C is a big question mark. it's very possible that the best outcome would be Rantanen at 2C since he showed he can do it. The extra cap space would probably give you 3M (+more if you trade someone away) at the TDL to get a new 2C if needed too.
