With Price on LTIR (and possibly Byron too); this frees up the Habs to be brokers for teams that are stuck under the cap. The Oilers are desperate to move Barrie but want a solid defensively minded blueliner on their right side to pair with Broberg; Stanley Cup experience is a bonus.

Habs add some futures in the 2nd and Savoie; and can also flip Barrie (with retention) now to a team like Dallas (once their RFA situation is resolved) or at the deadline and gain additional assets. Pairing Barrie with someone like Matheson or Edmundson will allow him to focus on offense and he would get top PP time in Montreal to help his cause.
