Tolvanen needs top 6 time, Kemmel plays overseas for two years, Glass needs a spot in the lineup to continue development, Johansen has positive value after last season, so why would you dump him with a first that could easily be outside of the playoffs.

Johansen ain’t worth a 7th. He had a great season last year. Tolvanen needs top six time. Glass gets in the lineup instead of Bonino.

I know the point of part of this is utilizing cap space, but you can probably get a better return for Johansen if you retained salary and I don't think you'd need to retain even 50%.

IMO, retaining $2M - $3M on him probably nets you anywhere between a 2nd and 3rd with maybe some middle of the road prospects.

If Poile made this awful trade, he should and probably would be fired immediately! The NHL draft is in Nashville next year; I would think it would take a major overlay for us to ship out our 1st round pick. Not included in a package for a needless cap dump shipping out a 60 pt centerman.
