underdogs overlooked

Description
offseason coming to an end and we’re all excited for a new season. im optimistic that players are gonna come back hungry and will buy into bones’ systems. people have already written off the jets but the talent here is undeniable and if they’re organized/have some bouncebacks i think they could make a run.
-im hoping lines look something like this to start, with players that actually compliment each other. i also want to try heinola on the top pairing to see how he fares with jomo playing on his offside
-i dont want to pay more than a fifth for kerfoot seeing as toronto needs to shed cap and still has to sign sandin. only thing is idk how seriously dubas wants to trade him and if winnipeg is on his M-NTC
-regardless, getting a player like kerfoot makes our third line actually have a chance to score and improves our fourth line so they wont have to play only like 6 minutes a night.
-otherwise the kids like gus bus are gonna have to play

lemme know what you think

kerfoot easily makes the most sense from my understanding. theyre not as likely to trade holl since theyd lose another RHD and the market for depth defensemen is also unfavourable (i know kulikov is a LHD but he still only returned futures lol). no one else expendable on toronto makes enough to get them compliant. ill be very interested in seeing what dubas does before season starts

Trading Kerfoot as a “cap dump” makes zero sense. He has incredible value and trading him to fit an unproven defence man (no matter his ceiling) would be dumb.

As for Holl he’s my opinion on who to go but between winning the Calder, and I think he was a SOO I think he’s untouchable for Dubas and that’s my 1 complaint about Dubas is that he has his guys (Also the Chicago team in USA hockey) and no one can budge him from that. Who knows, maybe Leaf’s will be **** and get a top 5 pick and get that kid from Chicago Steel. 🤣🤣🤣

toronto is literally $1.5M over the cap right now, this concept isn’t for them to fit a defensemen (not sure who you’re talking about), it’s for them to be cap compliant when the season starts. he has value which is why the jets would pay to get him; they wouldnt pay *much* to get him because toronto *needs* to shed cap. he’s a cap dump with value.

trading holl doesnt even give the leafs enough room to bring up a player on ELC, they’d need to get rid of holl and another player lol. plus getting rid of holl only leaves them with 5 D. holl also never won the calder but i agree about your point with dubas and his Soo guys, other GMs have soft spots for players that give them tunnel vision too haha

Sandin is the defence man. If Leafs trade Kerfoot it’s to fit Sandin. If they trade Holl they’re letting Sandin sit for a year instead of bending to sign him. As for cap space there’s always another option. Muzzin is always an option. Not just a trade but LTIR.

As for Holl winning the Calder I meant Calder Cup not Calder Trophy. AHL cup.

yeah i suppose we’ll see if muzzin or someone else goes on LTIR after training camp. theyll probably have to pay to get rid of muzzin tho which isnt the case for kerfoot or holl imo. just feels to me that moving kerfoot is the easiest way to solve some of the leafs’ problems

Trading Muzzin (with or without a price) would be the easiest option.
