Description
Tried to be realistic
Cap space is actually closer 3.5-4.5 million but I have extra forwards and dman up for competition.
I would have Hendricks & Walker battle for 4th line LW
Barber & Smith-Pelley battle for 4th line RW
And then have the Quincey-Bowey pair battle the Chorney-Prout pair for the 3rd D pairing.
I think the competition would serve the Caps team will heading into the new season. I know everybody likes to see big moves, but in reality they will be pretty hard for the Caps to pull off. You never know though. However, I'm sticking to the script. Tell me what you think guys.

I feel there are too many one year contracts after this year. I also feel trading Holtby gives the caps the best chance to do a gradual rebuild instead of attempting to save the whole core in hopes of winning the cup right now and then everyone's contract expires at the same time. He could bring in a sizable return package.

Goalies don't bring that much in trades. A 20 something pick and a b prospect. Maybe a skilled longshot but nothing worth building around.

Trade Carlson and resign Alzner. Best way to stay good is building lots of assets

      I get yalls points
Most of my 1 year deals are bridges to developing young players (Quincey is Seigenthaler bridge, Hendricks is walker bridge etc. --- the Carlson situation is tricky, I've done mocks where I traded him cus of his contract, in this one I decided to approach it like the blues did with shatty last year. Why give it away before you see what you got, and when teams get desperate. Then if some young players step up, then you move Carlson at the deadline. I don't know, just spitballing.

Good point. Moving him at the deadline may yield more in return. But it also might allow him to play into a bigger contract or even underperform and reduce his value. Really tricky. I also don't really think Alzner is worth resigning when you have so many younger players with higher ceilings. He was good for us, but I feel that would be a sentimental extension. His possession numbers and even his defensive numbers were not good last year.
