Dumba was a dash 3 yesterday, Freddy is alright if the coach would stop playing him in a top 6 role. If Barrie can be a fourth/fifth defensemen and we gamble on pool-party it seems alright to me

+/- is super dependent on luck, especially using a game as the sample size. And if you are gonna play the +/- game, you need to talk about how bad the forwards were in the d zone yesterday.

We already have Goose and Addison as 4/5 defenders and taking on Barrie would just require us to pay to ship him off in the summer. I’m all for brining Jesse in to forecheck for Boldy/Rossi but not sure the cap really works after taking on Reeves.

As for Freddy, there’s no need to move on from a guy like that unless the return is absurd or you want to send Deano a message, which I think might be a net good. I’ve learned to like Freddy but Dean misuses him so much.

4.5 mil in cap hit we have to pay to get out of in the summer for a guy that would be a rotating scratch with Goose.

Very good point!
One reason for acquiring Barrie (whom I’m not a big fan of) is I’m also not sold on Addison or Faber yet. Addison is still a mess everywhere but the offensive zone too often, and I’m beginning to question Faber’s ability to process the game fast enough (far too many forced passed). I’d love to combine the two and make a (very) poor man’s Makar out of them…

Anyway…acquiring Barrie allows both to be developed at a slower pace was my point.

Two things, I’m not sure what would convince you on Addison if you aren’t convinced already.

Second have you seen Barrie play at all? If you hate Dumba, you’d be getting a worse version in Barrie IMO.

Sorry, still not convinced Addison will end up as more than a PP specialist.
I’m not a fan of Barrie (Dumba is 5x the overall player), but he can be a stop gap for a team that won’t be competing gor the Cup anyway.

Glad we’re on the same page re: Dumba and Barrie. And while Addison is a top flight PP talent, I think he’s a #4 right now. IDK if he’s ever gonna be top pair material but I’m very happy with what he is right now and he’s still growing.

One thing Wild fans take for granted is how deep the D corps has been over the last 5-6 years. Suter, Spurg, Brodin, and Dumba were all top pair caliber players (maybe not so much atm but definitely were) and now we just have an above average D corps rather than a top end one.
