Description

Suter's unmovable contract makes adding some defensive depth a little tough for Dallas, but if the Stars can find someone to take on Hakanpaa's contract, I'd love to see them make a run at Artem Zub. Doesn't have much in the way of offensive skill, but could be a solid shutdown-style RD to pair with Heiskanen or Lindell.

I'm not entirely sure on the price for Zub right now, so I went through and found a couple of Senators trades on the site that included him & tried to at least get in the ballpark with this offer. Sens get the Stars top defensive prospect & one that's been buried behind Heiskanen, Lindell, and Suter (among others) for a year now. With all 3 of them signed through at least 2024-2025, it would be better for Dallas to trade him now, while his value is still fairly high as opposed to letting him sit in the AHL while he waits out the contracts of the guys ahead of him.

As always, curious to hear thoughts on the trade proposal and what needs to be added/removed.

Value wise it might make sense, but no way Ottawa is giving up their top RHD for what would be their 3rd best LHD

Even though Zub is a UFA after the season? This allows them to at least get a young defenseman that should be NHL ready immediately instead of potentially losing Zub for nothing after the year.

The Sens would want an RD in return for Zub. The left side is solid, but the right side is nothing without him.

If they know they're not gonna sign Zub then maybe? But I still think they'd be better to get the max picks they can get, and then use those to go get the RHD they'll need to replace Zub
