Utilizing LTIR at the Trade Deadline

Created by: Nipps_4
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 4, 2022
Published: Dec. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A mock up of a possible Timo Meier trade. Did not include Niemala or Knies. I believe the Maple Leafs would rather use all of their next 5 first rounders than trade assets with in the system.

That said, San Jose may want live bodies in return & the Maple Leafs have to shed at least one contract to pull off the trade.

Matt Knies is signed to a ELC post frozen four.

You can't have conditional picks that are reliant on a player re-signing.

Conditional picks based on re-signings are forbidden based on the new CBA.

And that's way too much for Timo Meier, Reports are that he will get less than Alex DeBrincat.

And i'm curious where Toronto is coming up with the $8,500,000 to $9,000,000 x 8 yrs to sign him.

both Calgary trades from this summer had conditional picks attached. So, when was this new rule to start?

Assuming you are right, can rephrase & keep the tenant of my original intent… games played or team performance. Ie 100 GP w Toronto & Toronto wins Stanley Cup.

Those conditions weren't based around the re-signing of any players. You can still have conditional picks, just not on those grounds.

I'm assuming this is still directed at me - I don't think you can do that with the GP, either, because he couldn't possibly reach that condition on his current contract.
