Reversing the galaxy brain decisions

Created by: STLBlues17
Team: 2022-23 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 13, 2022
Published: Dec. 13, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I usually hate when people do this, but whatever
Trades
1.
STL
  1. Dunn, Vince
Additional Details:
Dunn had a really bad year prior to expansion (long Covid???) but c’mon how do you protect Krug over him
2.
STL
  1. Schwartz, Jaden
Additional Details:
This one is more whatever, but the Blues have like zero defensively sound forwards and Schwartz is exactly that
3.
STL
  1. Perron, David
Additional Details:
I don’t even mind leddy but really?? This was such a slap in the face to all blues fans
4.
STL
Such an obviously bad contract. Like what? This isn’t even hindsight, they signed him a week into the global pandemic because he played 11 good games with Parayko.
    5.
    STL
    1. Lindgren, Charlie
    Additional Details:
Nitpicking, but Lindgren is legitimately good. 3 years would have blocked hofer and or Zherenko. I get it
    6.
    DET
    1. Binnington, Jordan
    Additional Details:
Can’t really do anything about this one, but probably shouldn’t back yourself in a corner with a 6x6 to a goalie.
    7.
    SEA
Hey look, extra cap space to acquire a middle-pair D.
      8.
      VGK
      1. Faulk, Justin
      Additional Details:
We hand out NTC’s like candy but can’t give our captain and number 1 D a NMC? I’m going insane here.
      9.
      VAN
      1. Pitlick, Tyler
      Additional Details:
Okay now I’m seriously nitpicking because he was offered a 1-way deal, but this was an amazing scouting job by Tkachuk and it went to waste. It was frustrating to watch him be in the AHL when he was easily the most effective l4 player last year

weird thing is ive always thought of saad as a defensive/TWF type.

Still gotta think this hindsight changes a few things...
such as barbashev hitting his stride. Tarasenko would be a more obvious claim for SEA over Krug. I also think keeping Pietrangelo might have meant Parayko doesn't extend.

Saad has been generally okay defensively (last year a big aberration) but Schwartz was so dominant. Tracking back lower than most wingers, forcing turnovers, skating pucks up ice, and then even making things hard on D with his forechecking.

Yeah perhaps things change. My guess would be Seattle takes Husso or Mikkola or Sanford (I think most people thought Vladdy was washed in summer 21 and Seattle’s analytics people likely wouldn’t touch Barbashev) but there’s no way to tell. A lot of bodies broke down after the cup too and perhaps Armstrong thought pre-back-injury Parayko would be a $9 million D rather than a $6.5 D and that’s why he felt the need to prepare differently. Idk, the point is that almost everything else that Armstrong could have done would be better than this product and it’s so frustrating watching all these beloved STL players finding success elsewhere when they feasibly all could still be here.

I love the original post and I appreciate the intelligent observations the others have made. The Blues should not be in this predicament, but the Cup team has been gutted. Not a single All-Star on that roster, but they competed and they played for each other. Not really sure what the Blues can do now except rebuild. It was really, really fun while it lasted. So much wasted, unappreciated talent.
