I give it 2 stars because it wasn't just the 3rd for Tanev, which seems to be the general thought of many Canucks fans, but I don't see a premium being paid by the Stars to rid themselves of Niemi's contract when a buyout is a simple solution that saves assets. Nill also doesn't like trading picks, he generally will try to collect more picks in trades rather than give them away.

seems like a bad deal for Vancouver. Lose a legit top 4 defenseman and take on a bad contract just to move up a few draft spots. I'd rather stay put if that's the best trade available.

I like the overall idea, and I've posted a couple similar (although more far-fetched) threads to this one. Personally I'd love to see the Canucks come out of this type of deal with the 3rd and 5th overall, even if it means adding another quality player or pick on top of Tanev. Maybe something like;

not much difference from 3-5 in this draft, its a bad deal for Van if you ask me. After #2 moving up a couple spots seems pretty inconsequential

The first trade is not worth it for Vancouver. This on the other hand, I completely agree with this.

JB probably does not move Tanev straight up for the 3rd overall. Dallas would need to add more........just the market for D dictates that. Remember JB does not have to trade Tanev. Why take less than you can get??
