Value-wise, it would be fine if EDM were in any way able to retain Meier after this year. However, they can't, so no.

He's an RFA so maybe Edmonton trades for him then flips him after the playoffs.

This day in age, you're not sending someone out the door without taking money back.
JP is a nothing contract to take for 3 months at the end of a season.

Of course money in money out. JP has no value at a 3M QO so for trading purposes he is a UFA contract which has zero value to a non playoff team. the 2nd for the retenetion which leave the X man and a low 1st for meier who has potentially 2 playoff runs in him beore UFA. Not enough
