Description
I think the media is beating a dead horse here at this point, but if these deals were what actually happened the Canucks would be a much better team today. I think the OEL one is completely subjective because I don’t know if Benning would’ve taken Guenther over Sillinger. And if they did we’d be having the same conversation, just without 12 million dollars of wasted cap space.

I don’t know, leave your thoughts below.

Good stuff. Should add Trading for John Marino in the off-season. Rumoured ask was Rathbone and a 2nd. Perfect long term partner for Hughes

Canucks should have jumped all over the Ranger trade when they had the chance. Maybe try to remember that when valuing Horvat? Just a thought.

With the team playing as well as they did in the 2nd half of the season and Miller being an absolute beast I don’t blame management for wanting to have one more go with the core as they were. Don’t think it was the best idea to re-sign him with a year left on the contract but not trading him was not a bad move if they thought this team had a chance at the playoffs. Unfortunate how this season has turned out

I get what you're saying and it's reasonable. Sometimes it's a tough call to either sign or trade a player that is still youngish and good, but I can't help thinking that the Canucks management knew about his attitude issues that stretch back to his Ranger days, but they ignored it because they over valued his worth to other teams, and when no one bit, they panicked and signed him. That along with core pieces like Hughes, Pettersson, Demko and kids like Podzolzin and Hoglander, who are all still very young, they should have been more willing to trade him for picks and young, solid players and look to win in 3 years or so.

Look at the Rangers trading Nash, Zuccaello, McDonagh, etc. and the load they got from those deals. Maybe not the McDonagh trade yet but definitely the Nash trade with K’Andre Miller and Lindgren being two of the team’s best defenders now.

Chytil is on a 53 pt pace playing 3rd line minutes. They wouldn't even trade him straight up for Miller with that contract he has let alone a 1st rd pick thrown in. Keep dreaming

Yeah, agree. The McDonagh trade turned out to be terrible for the Rangers but the Nash deal was the steal of the century. And Boston doesn't usually make bad trades like that, but it just shows GM's are humans and make mistakes. You win some and lose some.

Yeah that’s why I think this whole idea of reversing trades and changing what’s already happened is just counterproductive at this point. Vancouver media is so cynical as well towards management and players which just makes such a hostile environment. I mean the team looked good enough to beat Colorado last night, I think management has a better grasp on the situation than we think.

IMO, the Canucks have enough talent to be a playoff team. I think the issue is in the room or in the coaching staff or both. I watched the Islanders be not very good for several years only to become a very good team with basically the same roster when they hired Lamarillo who then hired Trotz. He turned the worst defensive team into maybe the best defensive team in one season and took them deep into the playoffs. Coaching and management matter more than most people think.

I didn't propose any trade for Horvat, so no idea what you are talking about.
