With double retention, this trade works, I don't know how to do that in the trade machine, but it does work.

It's a bold move for sure and I'm not positive its the best possible move for the Leafs. But I really think the "near future" on the blue line is Rielly-Liljegren; LD-Brodie; Gio-Holl. So if you upgrade Sandin to the super steady Ferraro who is also locked in at a low number for a few years which helps with the cap situation. This also only works if the Sharks are willing to give up Ferraro who I know they like.

Leafs top 6 becomes: Bunting - Matthews - Nylander; Meier - Tavares - Marner; with then Jarnkrok and Kerfoot able to fill in or be the 3rd line.

Also works if Mathew Knies was not an untouchable

push comes to shove, Matt Knies I don't think will be untouchable. Although I don't want to trade him either.

I like this deal from all sides actually, nice job from this guy's point of view. How good a prospect is Vlasic? Would Chicago want maybe a 3rd instead of a 4th for him or is he just not there?

Toronto gives up two great young players, and one in Sandin who is starting to make a place for himself with Liljegren on the second pairing. That would be tough for them to give up, and so would Knies, and adding their late 1st too.. but they get a pretty good D-man in Ferraro back, and they get Meier, which would be a big add of course. So give to get. If the Leafs can't somehow get Meier to extend as part of the deal, and work a way to fit him going forward during the off-season, it might be too steep! But either way, my thoughts, pretty close.
