Hague for Sandin is the brunt of this deal. Gogolev and Primeau are nothing prospects.

I assume both teams pass.

I think both teams are happy with their guys.

I did suggest similar when both Hague and Sandin were holding out in the offseason. But as of now, both teams keep their guy.

leafs need a more phyisical LHD, plus next year timmins and Reilly will be on the top of each PP and Sandin doesnt PK

Sandin is quite physical. He has 113 hits in 51 games vs 74 hits in 55 games by Hague. Of course Hague is the bigger man but Sandin is one of the only guys in d corp that provides a physical element.

Remember when he did this to Blake Wheeler? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvQFiyHcQ4k

But I do agree Leafs need more physicality in their D but removing Sandin doesn't accomplish that.

Yeah Sandy can throw a hit but when we play any heavier teams hes easily bumped off pucks in corners. Cant see the leafs going far this year with a left side achored by Rielly-Sandin since they both do the same things, and i wouldnt want to rely on a 40yr old Gio to play #3 d for a 2 month run

I think our overall D needs more physicality but to upgrade the guys we have now, with more physical versions of them (without getting worse dman) is super expensive.

Rielly is big but not physical. Brodie is a super talented defensive dman but not physical. If you uprgade Brodie to a more physical version of yourself, you are now paying for a top 20 dman in the league who has serious cap.
Gio is super talented and responsible but not physical and he is on a great cap hit. Lily is not physical but has shown very capable and he is on a low cap hit. Hard to upgrade either guy.
Sandin is physical but not a huge guy. If is he upgraded it would need to be to a guy like Chychrun (very expensive). Holl has thrown a few hits this year and his big but he isn't a bruiser by anymeans. He is the most likely candidate to be upgraded to get someone physical. But he has played 21 minutes a game on a good team and to upgrade him would be super expensive. Timmins has played well and is a good 7th option. He is also not very physical.

The cheap option is to get Schenn as a 8th d option. So if we are getting beat up in a series, we take out Holl and put Schenn in.
We could get Chychrun but he is a LD and that would mean Sandin gets traded or is sitting out.
We could target a guy like Parayko on the RD. But his play has dropped off and he is signed for 6.5m a year for 7 more years and has a NTC.

To actually get an upgrade over what we have now would be SUPER expensive.

I think getting Schenn and adding him to our current group is the most probable scenario.

IMO, I think Sandins a fine player and will cap out at a #4 max. IMO Doesnt skate well, doesnt PK and Keefe doesnt look to him to run the PP and has benched him in the playoffs for basically 2 series in a row so i believe keefe tends to not trust him. Hague is basically the opposite as Sandin, big guy with size who defends well and skates well. i think it would be a beneficial swap for both

Why would we want to trade a good skater for a bad skater? Which PP guy is he taking out? Theo? No chance…Petro? Nope…

Trade does nothing for us but lose team chemistry
