first reaction was that this might be too much, but if they could negotiate an extension for Doughty as part of the deal...

Lets be realistic here, Draisaitl hasn't established himself as a center which would dramatically increase his trade value, and Puljujarvi hasn't established himself in the NHL at all. Doughty solidifies the Oilers back end, and a free agent signing such as Radulov or Oshie replaces any missing production for the next few years, long enough that the Oilers can find a replacement.

Drai can certainly hold his own as a centreman and he's a damn good one at that. It's hard to find a big 6'4 200 pound centre like him who isn't scared to battle for the puck and puljujarvi is big to and he will be riding McDavid shot gun for years to come this is way to much future given up on one player

I'm not saying it's not a fair trade on skill alone. But this type of trade will never happen, especially when the Oilers have control of two players for potentially a decade. It's too risky to have Doughty potentially say goodbye in 2 years. You'll never find a GM willing to take that risk.

Your overvaluing Doughty. IMO. Both these young players will be with the Oilers for years with McDavid.

Seems to be a common thread. Rebuilding teams give up their potential young stars for two years of Doughty. Ain't happening
