Not sure about that. Ekholm retention at 4 years and Jeannot could turn out to be a Bunting type based on his rookie season (mind you it is a bit of a long-shot).

But 4 years of retention for Ekholm and a cheap fill roster player with potential? IMO Leafs make the trade

I'm not convinced of Ekholm and Jeannot. I think long term, Sandin will be better and Voit is currently 3rd in the OHL in points, 1rst in assist and 1rst in power play points. I wouldn't suggest trading that for retention.

That's 100% at least a B-tier prospect so not a fan of the trade

Fair point. I think both could be question marks but based on Ekholm's career success as a shutdown defender, I think most contending teams would be okay paying just over 3M for 4 years of him regardless of age, no?

Also it's always tough to evaluate OHL scoring to NHL scoring, especially when it's a guy who has a few seasons of OHL play under his belt already. 4 years of retention without a high pick may cost you a prospect with potential upside like this.

The Voit can really be any prospect they would accept. I just knew a 3rd wouldn’t be enough.
Sandin may be long term better but we need to win now. Ekholm helps that more than Sandin now. Plus we will a hole on D cheap for next couple years.
It’s steep but I felt it fair for both teams.

I def. could see contending teams pay that price for Ekholm but if he ever loses his foot speed, that's a terrible contract on your hands for the next 4 year and Voit + MInten + Sandin + Roberston's not worth it IMO.
